With summer at an end it’s time for our first ever intern class to pack up and leave. As this remarkably talented group scatters back across the country to their respective schools we’d like to give a peek inside life at Weebly through their eyes (we’re going to miss you guys!).
From Twitter embeds to Vimeo multimedia there’s an entire ecosystem of tools that can serve as powerful (and free) add ons to your website, online store or blog. Lets take a look at a few of our favorite services that only take a few minutes to setup and implement with the embed code element.
While the recent Google Apps for Business integration has helped many of you promote your domain and manage your Weebly website with branded email in one easy location, we want to make sure you’re enjoying one of our favorite Google Apps email features: branded email on your mobile device.
PC Magazine just awarded Weebly the Editors’ Choice award as the top rated site builder. We’re honored to receive such positive recognition, and wanted to share the good news with you! Without all your awesome feedback, beta testing, and community support, we wouldn’t be where we are today.
To celebrate we’d like to give something back to the community that made it all possible. The first 10 people to share this on Twitter (with an @weebly) will receive a free year of Weebly Pro. We have a ton of new features currently in development so stay tuned for more big updates! The membership creation and management experience you’ve been waiting for is finally ready for testing and feedback with today’s release of Membership Beta. Try out the new membership features at using your normal login credentials. You need a Pro or Business plan to access the Membership Beta toolset and will need to publish your site at least once while logged into the Beta for everything to work properly.
Many of you have asked about the benefits of SSL and whether it’s necessary for your website, blog or online store, so we’d like to shed some light on SSL and it’s value for both security and trust online.
SSL stands for Secure Sockets Layer and is used to encrypt information transferred across the Internet. This encryption protects your information from getting intercepted by unwelcome eavesdroppers (ever wonder who might be sniffing your data on the coffee shop public wifi?) and is enabled through an SSL certificate that allows visitors to navigate a website over a secure connection. But an SSL certificate can do more than just data encryption, it also serves as a powerful trust signal for your visitors, which can help increase sales, form submissions, or whatever it is you need your website to do.
We’re super proud to announce that the lovely Timeless Photography is our new Before & After winner! We received an overflow of amazing entries since the contest started in early May, but Timeless Photography definitely impressed us the most with big bold slideshows and minimalist gallery pages.
Created by Martina Hohnjec, a self-taught photographer from Croatia, Timeless Photography showcases Martina’s unique brand of wedding, lifestyle and fashion photography. As part of her Before & After makeover, Martina implemented the Pinterest Pin It button for images featured on her blog. We’ve created a special How’d They Do That? video so you can see exactly how the Timeless Photography Pin It button works. By encouraging easy one-click sharing on Pinterest, the Pin It button helps Timeless Photography gain visibility and traffic from a large social audience. Continuing the tradition of our very first winners, Martina’s site transformation included much more than just the Pinterest button. Here’s a look at the site before and after the big changes.
We’re always looking for new ways to make your site-building life easier by making our tools smarter and more intuitive. With this goal in mind we recently made some big changes to column creation along with some element updates that give you better control over layout and spacing for your website, online store or blog.
You can now create columns automatically simply by dragging elements next to each other. The old column limit is gone along with the original columns element, making it even easier to drag and drop elements into sophisticated multi-column arrangements.
Every successful website or online store has to eventually answer this question: how in the world do I organize all my content? Irene Wolansky from Fawn Lily Botanica makes site organization look easy with elegant menu drop-downs generated by subpage creation in the Pages tab.
This week’s edition of How’d They Do That walks through Irene’s subpage implementation step-by-step so you can make the most out of this advanced organization tool.
In addition to her insight into subpage strategy, we were lucky enough to get a chance to learn more about Irene’s background and experience building Fawn Lily Botanica into a successful eCommerce website.
“How’d They Do That” continues this week with a look at the sophisticated footer links Our Table created with just a few basic theme adjustments.
